Bhutan - Druk Yul - Land of the Thunder Dragon
Bhutan is a country in the eastern Himalayas lying between Tibet in China and Sikkim, West Bengal, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh in India. It is a spectacular country of mountains and valleys that define its people and way of life. It is a special destination, unlike anywhere else in the world.
Bhutan is at a particularly auspicious point in history. In 2008 the people of Bhutan marked the celebration of the Coronation of His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, 100 years of monarchy, the adoption of Bhutan's Constitution, successful elections in March and the peaceful formation of the first elected government headed by Prime Minister Jigmi Y. Thinley.
Bhutan is a country intent on integrating the past with the future and has mindfully set out goals for creating the right environment for people to achieve their individual happiness. The four pillars of Bhutan's overarching development philosophy of Gross National Happiness are:
